So you spent all lot of time, money and resources to build a beautiful webpage, but now how do you get traffic to your website to see it? Unless you have gone with the build it and they will come philosophy that many companies take (and let me tell you right now that this philosophy doesn't work in the business world) then you need to optimize your website. Website Optimization is probably a phrase that you have heard before, but what does it mean? I am going to explain website optimization the simplest way possible. If you are looking for more complex answers, then you will need to do a web search or call me and we can talk in person. Website optimization is a procedure used to get your website to operate as effective or functional as possible. One of the largest website optimization strategies is search engine optimization. This is simply a process of creating your website in a way that search engine spiders can find your website and properly index you within their search results. I will discuss Search Engine Optimization in a bit. Other Website Optimization strategies include compressing your site down so that it visitors to your website can view it quickly and easily. You have probably visited a website that was very slow to load and I am sure that you didn't end up going back. In fact I had this issue with The Food Network's website this past month. I used to love their website, but they redesigned it with pretty Flash elements and now the pages take forever to load. You can visit their website at http://www.foodnetwork.com to see what I mean…unless they have corrected it…which I hope has happened. Anyway, the point is if a visitor doesn't have a good experience on your website, they are not coming back to visit it again. Other website optimization strategies include pay-per-click optimization and conversion rate optimization as well as online advertising campaigns. Search Engine Optimization Search engine marketing and placement has become the number one means of marketing on the Internet. With search engine optimization and marketing, websites are able to achieve high rankings on search engines through natural search engine placement when searching descriptive terms relative to the site's subject matter. These descriptive terms are through the use of keywords and tags that are put into your website when it is designed. Yes, I did say designed. And you thought a website was just a pretty page. Proper Search Engine Optimization not only involves Title, Meta Tag and Keyword creation, but careful construction of Page Content, Site Navigation, Contextual Link Advertising, Link Reciprocation and much, much more. Why? Why? Why? You may be asking yourself why you should consider website optimization. That is a simple question that deserves a simple answer. You not only need to consider it, you need to do it because your competition is doing it. We live in an informational age where competition is growing even in niche markets and you need to give your business every advantage over your competitor or you are going to get left behind. And for those of you that are thinking to yourself while reading this “My business isn't going to effected by the internet, so I don't need to worry about a website or optimizing my current website” you need to think again. Website retail is the fastest growing market today. You may even be losing customers right now to online retailers.
